In an article published on 26th June 2024, Professor Anthony Turton, a water expert with the Centre for Environmental Management at the University of the Free State, points out:

“Stated simply, this means that the millions of new chemical compounds in everyday use are simply overwhelming the wastewater treatment technology first developed by the British after the Great Stink of 1858. The human ingenuity driving the chemical and pharmaceutical industries is producing more compounds than any traditional wastewater treatment plant can safely deal with, before discharging the “treated” water back into the nearest aquatic ecosystem.”

The Process
The first phase of the Biozone system is where conventional septic tanks or tanks accept the raw sewage from the source and provide an anaerobic platform, which is a vital process before the sewage overflows or is pumped into the Bioremediation tank system.

Oxygen in the form of atmospheric air is delivered into the bioremediation tank or tanks to encourage vigorous bacteria and microorganisms growth. Unlike conventional activated sludge sewage treatment solutions used in municipal treatment plants worldwide, the BM bioremediation tanks are filled with specially designed and manufactured “media” with an enormous surface area where the bacteria grow prolifically.

The prolific growth of “helpful” bacteria feeds on organic matter in sewage, rendering it into clean water without contaminants or odour. The Biozone system circulates highly oxygenated water evenly throughout the Bioremediation tank, where the healthy bacteria “eat” the organic “poo”, rendering the sewage water free of odours and contaminants. As the atmospheric air is encapsulated in motive water circulation throughout the tank, this also has the effect of scouring away “clumps” of sewage sticking to the media.

The result is sludge-free water flowing into a clarifier tank where remaining heavy particles sink to the bottom and are pumped back into the septic tank for further treatment/circulation through the Bioremediation tanks.

After the clarifier tank, ozone is introduced into the disinfection tank where natural disinfection occurs. The outflow can be used for garden irrigation or safely returned into rivers, underground, or soil.
